Sea Caves and Cliffs of Thassos - trip by kayaks / 22 June – 24 June 2012 / |
Thassos is the northernmost Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The island is mountainous built mainly of marbles. It rises up to 1046 meters above the sea level. It's coasts are mostly rocky, but there are narrow bays with small beaches. Our trip heads to the southern part of the island, which is the most interesting location for kayaking. To the west coast there are small cliffs and beaches on the coast. Here they are more accessible, formed by warm-colored conglomerates. To the east the conglomerates turn into limestone. Cracked and corroded by weathering and surf, they form strange shapes, rock crevices and caves. We will look into them, entering with the kayaks. |
Further to the east the coast changes into white marble cliffs, which here and there exceed 100 meters. Season: from March to November. Program: Over the next two days we will go kayaking to the most interesting places along the coast of Thassos. We will paddle under the cliffs, you'll go in the water caves, we will stop on the beaches for a swim in the sea. Caution: In case of bad weather conditions, the plan can be changed. |
